Trusted partner to industry leaders:
Aerotherm was founded by Dr M.P. van Staden who obtained his postgraduate degrees specialising in advanced applications of CFD in industry. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Masters’ degrees in Mechanical Engineering at the North-West University (South Africa) and went on to complete his Doctor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Johannesburg (South Africa).
He started his engineering career at the Lethabo Power Station in the Free State in South Africa in 1991. Thereafter, he joined Eskom’s Technology Research and Investigations (TRI) division in 1993, where he was responsible for establishing a CFD group as part of TRI’s research and consulting services. He parted ways with Eskom (South Africa’s electricity public utility) in 1995 to establish his own CFD consulting company, Aerotherm Computational Dynamics.
Aerotherm undertook numerous national and international projects and in 1998 Dr van Staden was commissioned to oversee the gas-dynamic design of the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR). The entire reactor design was optimised and simulated using CFD. Dr van Staden currently resides in the United States of America and is working as the Vice President of Reactor Development at X-energy (Maryland, USA).
Today, Aerotherm is headed by Ignus le Roux (Director of Engineering Services) and Christiaan de Wet (Director of Engineering Software).
